Rome – The 15th MATTADOR International Screenplay Award dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo and aimed at young Italian and foreign authors aged 16 to 30 has opened.
The Award, conceived and promoted by the MATTADOR Cultural Association, was created to bring out and enhance new talents who choose to approach a professional and artistic path in the field of film writing. Over the years, the Prize has achieved an established reliability that has made it a point of reference in the film industry and for production companies in search of young authors. Confirmation of this are the achievements of the winners of the various editions who have established themselves in the field of screenwriting.
The Prize now enjoys the Patronage of the European Parliament.
The sections and related prizes for the 2023/2024 Competition are:
● MATTADOR Award for the best feature film screenplay: 5,000 euros.
● MATTADOR Award for the best subject: 1,500 euros. The finalists for the best subject, awarded a training grant, are accompanied by professional screenwriters on a development path for their subjects. At the end of the training, the best development work receives a prize of 1,500 euros.
● MATTADOR Series Award for the best TV series project: 1,000 euros. Finalists, awarded a training grant, are accompanied by professional screenwriters on a development path for their projects. At the end of the training, the best development work receives a prize of 1,000 euros.
● DOLLY “Illustrating Cinema” Award for the best story told in pictures. The winner, awarded a
training grant, is accompanied by professional tutors on a path of developing his or her own story, with the elaboration of a complete dossier of presentation of a film or animation project. At the end of the training, depending on the result of the internship, an additional award of 1,000 euros may be awarded.
● CORTO86 Award for the best short film screenplay: offers a Training Fellowship with the making of a short film based on the winning screenplay. The author is accompanied by professional tutors at all stages of pre-production, shooting and post-production of the short film, for which he/she may also sign the direction. The theme of the Competition for the 2023/2024 edition is: “The Border. A geographic, emotional, and human concept that can be explored in its different declinations.”
