Brussels – The European Commission approved today (January 15) a state aid scheme totaling 120 million euros to better connect Calabria to the rest of Italy and the rest of Europe. The Italian government launched the scheme to support the creation of new air links to and from airports in the Calabria region.
The scheme will run until March 27, 2027, and aims to improve connectivity between Calabria and other European regions as well as the mobility of residents in Calabria. The aid will take the form of direct subsidies and is open to airlines establishing new connections between one of Calabria’s three airports and another airport in the European Common Aviation Area. The scheme will cover 50 percent of the cost of airport charges incurred by each beneficiary for each new air route.
