Tariffs: Trump “suspends” them for 90 days and sets them at 10 per cent. But 125 per cent for China

"Based on the fact that more than 75 countries have called U.S. representatives"

    DONALD TRUMP PRESIDENTE USA

Brussels – Yet another turn by U.S. President Donald Trump, who today decided to “suspend” tariffs to all countries for 90 days while confirming them at 10 per cent during this period and increasing those toward Chinese products to 125 per cent.

“Given the disrespect shown by China to world markets, I hereby increase to 125 per cent the tariffs imposed on China by the United States of America, effective immediately,” Trump writes on his Truth social. “At some point, hopefully in the near future,” the president continues, “China will realise that the days of robbing the United States and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable.

On the contrary, Trump continues in the message, “based on the fact that more than 75 countries have called U.S. representatives, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury and USTR, to negotiate a solution to the issues under discussion related to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-monetary tariffs and that these countries have not, at my strong suggestion, taken any retaliation against the U.S., I have authorized a PAUSE (capitalized in the original, ed.) of 90 days and a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff during this period, by 10 per cent, also effective immediately.”

He concludes, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
