Brussels – The EU has paid Italy aid from the European Solidarity Fund (EUSF) for storm and damage repair. Specifically, the services of the EU executive said the European Commission paid €284.1 million to Emilia-Romagna to cope with the reconstruction of the May 2023 floods, which is in addition to the 94.7 million euros already paid in advance to Italy in November 2023. This brings the total EU support for the region to €378.8 million.
Tuscany has received 67.8 million euros for the consequences of the November 2023 flood disaster that particularly affected the provinces of Prato, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, and Livorno.
Executive Vice President for Cohesion and Reforms, Raffaele Fitto, said he was satisfied. “Climate-related disasters are increasingly disrupting the lives and economies of Europe’s citizens, regions, and cities,” he said. As a result, “rebuilding is a huge challenge for our communities as well as for national and regional budgets.” The EU Solidarity Fund “is a concrete demonstration of European solidarity with citizens and regions, helping them in these recovery and reconstruction efforts,” he concluded.
