Cairo – “War in the Middle East can curb certain ongoing dynamics, but perhaps it is more interesting to consider that certain ongoing dynamics can remove the causes of conflict. The Union of the Mediterranean, which I represent here, has as its mandate to remove the root causes of conflict in the Mediterranean and, looking around, we decided that basically, the most efficient existing path is to facilitate the sustainable transition of the Mediterranean economy,” said Grammenos Mastrojeni, Assistant Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, during CSEW, the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week underway in Cairo.
“What does this transition do? Let’s take the energy sector as an example. The energy sector, with all the innovations we need, especially renewability, which is not only a carbon transition issue, but also a sovereignty issue, structurally creates a redistribution of income between the different sides of the Mediterranean.”
