Brussels – The European Commission appointed today (June 19) Italy’s Gabriele Semeraro as the new director of the ‘Government Finance Statistics’ section within the Commission’s Directorate-General for Statistics. This body is responsible for processing and providing data on Europe in cooperation with national statistical institutes. The date on which Semeraro will begin his new assignment has not yet been decided.
Semeraro, who holds a degree in economics and a doctorate in mathematical economics, has had managerial roles in macroeconomic statistics and public finance for nearly 24 years. Since August 2019, the new Director has worked in the Bank of Italy’s statistics section. Semeraro has already worked closely with the European Commission as a senior adviser to the Chair of the Committee on Monetary, Financial, and Balance of Payments Statistics, which supports the EU on these issues.
