Brussels – The US ambassador in Europe will not be the anti-European Ted Malloch. The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, is convinced of this, and said it during a Live Facebook forum hosted by the news agency Ansa.
Talking about the new US presidency, Tajani said that the USA “remain the main interlocutor of the EU on the world stage, regardless of who the President is,” and that in order to understand well the effects of Donald Trump’s policies “it is necessary to wait until real choices are made, and it takes time.” Still, according to the President of the European Parliament, “some principles still apply: we are friends, we are ready to listen to criticism and advice, but we do not submit to anyone, we do not take orders from anyone.”
Then, with particular reference to the possibility for Malloch to be appointed as Ambassador, Tajani pointed out that “we are not willing to accept insults from people who do not know the EU and that the Parliament, by a large majority, declared as persona non grata.” However, the President of the European Parliament said he was “convinced that the person chosen by President Trump is not the person we are talking about.”
