Brussels – The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of joint control over MCIS-CN and the assets of AETZ-CN by Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (MCHC) and Ube Industries. Both target companies are active in the production of electrolytes for lithium-ion secondary batteries in China. The acquiring companies are both registered in Japan. MCHC is a global holding company active in performance products, health care and industrial materials. Ube is a global company active in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, machinery and energy and environment. The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would raise no competition concerns as the jointly controlled entity will operate solely in East Asia and will have no activities within the European Economic Area. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure
