Pierre Moscovici is the French candidate for an office at the European Commission. François Hollande made the announcement and will send Jean-Claude Juncker (President elected of the European Commission) the official letter within 31 July. Paris would like to have his former Finance Minister as Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, but this can be opposed by Germany, which would not be very happy to hand this position to a socialist.
Another possibility for Moscovici could be Commissioner for the Internal Market, already in the hand of a French representative, Michael Barnier (EPP) in this outgoing Commission.
Six Member States still have to express their candidacies: Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Romania and Belgium.
