The Democratic Party delegation reached an agreement on the offices to be held during this term. As anticipated by eunews, Gianni Pittella will run for the S&D group Vice-Presidency, Roberto Gualtieri for the Presidency of the Economic Affair Committee and David Sassoli for the Parliament Vice-Presidency.
Nothwistanding the need of these candidacies to be approved by the S&D group, the Committee and the Parliament, respectively, votes are almost assured and there shouldn’t be any coup de théâtre. The first vote in the agenda will take place in the S&D group. Socialists have also officialised Martin Schulz’ candidacy as President of the European Parliament once more, then the handover with the Italian Pittella for the position of head of the group is now certain.
Among the other offices to be assigned, a second presidency of a Parliamentary Committee, which could be assigned to a woman, with Patrizia Toia, Silvia Costa and Alessia Mosca leading the list.
