The UKIP leader, Nigel Farage, reiterated his adversity to any alliance with the far-right French party. “No negotiation with Marine Le Pen and the Front National. How many times do I have to tell you?” he said to the press after the Conference of Presidents held at the European Parliament in Brussels. He then added that an alliance with the 5 Stars Movement could work: “Grillo? Let’s wait and see their programme. We could have a go,” he said.
For sure, the leader of British eurosceptics is against the appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker as President of the European Commission. At the Conference of Presidents which officially endorsed the EPP candidate “I voted no” said Farage. “This was a tragic election, with the far-right on the lead in several countries, and if European Leaders are worried about it, they would better indicate someone else at the dinner tonight.” And it was not enough: “I really doubt they will,” he said. Then, asked if he has an ideal candidate for the Commission Presidency, he joked: “I think it would be me, but I still haven’t decided whether to accept.”
