An “iron pact” with the French Front National for the upcoming European Parliament Elections. Salvini: “I’m proud of it.”
Euroskeptics are tightening up their ranks. The Italian Lega Nord chooses a French extreme right-wing party for its first “iron pact”: Marine Le Pen’s neo-fascist Front National is their first choice. “Today Lega Nord and Front National’s leader Marine Le Pen have signed a true iron pact,” reads a statement issued during the afternoon. A delegation made up of top party managers, the secretary general Matteo Salvini and the head of Lega Nord delegation in the EP, Lorenzo Fontana, met Ms. Le Pen in Strasbourg, to discuss a joint strategy ahead of European Parliament Elections in May and to “set up the battle to fight in the new EP.”
Mr. Salvini is enthusiastic about it: “I am proud to cooperate with Marine Le Pen and with all the movements which believe in a different Europe, based on work and peoples and not in the one based on servitude to euro and banks, ready to let us die from immigration and unemployment. We are not ‘Euroskeptics’ at all: we are the only ones committed to build a future of work and hope for Europe.” Fontana, zestfully appointed as Carroccio’s “Foreign Minister”, has been working on the pact for months. “It was a significant meeting, establishing the foundation of the cooperation on shared areas which will involve a platform made up of strongly identitarian parties.” This iron pact aims to “change Europe, re-define treaties, single currency and trade policies – especially the ones with China e Asian South-East. Moreover, we want to tackle illegal immigration radically. Nowadays, the real challenge is the clash between the Europe of globalization and euro and the Europe of peoples.”
