The President: “The first evaluation on flexibility is up to the Commission who will then make us proposals”
In Parliament he referred to the Cyprus crisis: “The program is an opportunity for the country”
The June Eurogroup will discuss the possibility that Italy could have more time to reach the budget objectives requested by Brussels. It is how the President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem explained it to eunews.it, on the margin of the meeting at the committee for Economic problems of the European Parliament. “It is the Commission who must tell us if a country needs more or less time; this goes for my country and for all the other countries,” declared Dijsselbloem, who then specified: “The Commission’s proposal will arrive at the end of May and we will discuss it in the Eurogroup in June.”
With the Euro MP’s he took stock of the situation on the Cyprus case. For Dijsselbloem “the macroeconomic adjustment program was brought to completion successfully” keeping in mind “the truly extraordinary circumstances that brought about a request for assistance” by the government of Nicosia. Not only, in his opinion “this adjustment program is an opportunity to put the country’s economy back on the right track, an opportunity not to be wasted.”
