The President of the European Commission intervened at the UN General Assembly
“More cooperation and coordination between nations is essential to win this challenge”
The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, asked the UN to do more about tax evasion. “It costs the EU 1 billion every year and the global count is much higher. It involves money that should be spent for instruction, authorities, healthcare, and investments in the infrastructure both of developed countries and in the developing ones” he affirmed in his speech at the General Assembly.
According to the President “more cooperation and coordination among nations is no longer just a responsible choice. Today it is essential to manage our common global challenges and to optimize the opportunity that interdependence offers.” In the past, the Portuguese explained, confronting the challenges together brought hopeful results: “From time to time the practical cooperation led to political integration; common problems led to shared solutions – small steps for the member states were big steps for Europe and its complex.
