The entrepreneur will be the new President the European industrialists, the first woman to take on the role
She succeeds Thumann who says: “She has great experience and is the leader we need”
Beginning July 1st Emma Marcegaglia will be the new President of BusinessEurope, the European Industry Federation that represents 41 organizations on the continent, among which the Italian Confindustria, for which Marcegaglia was president from 2008 -2012. At the time she was the first woman to fill the role and now the entrepreneur will second that achievement but on a European level: until now the European ‘Confidustria’ has never had a female leader.
BusinessEurope unites 41 national associations representing businesses, hailing from 35 countries the 27 EU members and other 8 candidates with accession to or members of the European Economic Area (EEA), overall represent over 20 million businesses.
“I am honored and pleased that I have been chosen to succeed Jürgen R. Thumann as President of the main horizontal European business organization” Marcegaglia declared. “The challenges the European economy is facing – the entrepreneur continued – demand significant changes. I will work to contribute constructively to the necessary refocusing of European policies on competitiveness and growth.”
The German Thumann, who led the federation for 2 terms, applauded the announcement of her appointment: “She is a successful entrepreneur with broad Italian, European and international experience. In demanding economic times like these, she is the leader BusinessEurope needs.”
