Former editor of The Economist follows a good guy, bad guy path in Italy, creating a story about the country that the Sole24Ore has defined as “marvelously stodgy”
“Girlfriend in a Coma”, a documentary film on Italy by Bill Emmott and Annalisa Piras, will be presented for the first time in continental Europe on January 17th at 19:15 at the Theatre at the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels (rue de Livourne 38). “Girlfriend in a Coma”, is a documentary film based on Bill Emmott’s book “Good Italy, Bad Italy”. The former editor of The Economist, who also stars in the film, carries out a quest to portray both the good and evil of Italy, creating a story about the country that Sole24Ore has defined as “marvelously stodgy”.
Following the premier, a debate will take place in which Emmott and Annalisa Piras themselves will participate together with Federiga Bindi, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Lorenzo Robustelli, Editor-in-Chief of Eunews.it, Graham Watson, member of the European Parliament and President of Liberal Democrats, James Fontanella-Khan, Brussels correspondent for the Financial Times, Heater Grabbe, Open Society Foundations, Francesca Galli, spokesperson for the RENA Association in Brussels. “It is a huge honor to host the first continental showing of “Girlfriend in a Coma” at the Italian Cultural Institute of Brussels – Bindi declared – this is an extraordinary event, especially since Annalisa Piras, the film’s director and also Bill Emmott, who, besides being a renowned journalist and a real Italy expert, will be present in the theatre and will participate in the debate after the showing. With them there will also be a prestigious audience that I am sure will know how to prompt an interesting and meaningful discussion on today’s Italy”.
“Girlfriend in a Coma” is only the first episode of the series A Window on Italy: films and debates on contemporary Italy which will be hosted at the Cultural Institute.
